BIOGRAPHY

“Exquisite,” “Delicate,” and “Artistically fulfilling” are but some of the ways Dr Melinda Wade-English’s performance have been described.

   As an academic, Dr Wade-English has served on the woodwind faculty at Salisbury University, Peabody Preparatory Division of Johns Hopkins, Anne Arundel Community College, Tarleton State University, and the United States Naval Academy. During 2015-2016 Melinda worked for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's OrchKids El Sistema-based educational outreach program in West Baltimore as a flute teaching artist. Currently, she teaches for the International School of Music in Bethesda, Maryland and in her private studio at home. 

     As an orchestral performer, Dr Wade-English plays flute with the Washington Chamber Orchestra and the Young Vic Orchestra in Baltimore, Maryland. She has performed with Opera Vivente, the Maryland Philharmonic Orchestra, the Annapolis Chorale Chamber Orchestra, the Roswell Symphony, the Mid-Atlantic Symphony, the Lubbock Ballet Orchestra, the Symphony of the Hills, and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

   As a collaborative performer, Dr Wade-English performed with the award-winning Atlantic Winds Woodwind Quintet the Arundel Winds Faculty Quintet. Dr Wade-English is a former Staff Sergeant of the United States Army Field Band where she performed as a featured flutist soloist on five major tours in major concert halls throughout the United States and abroad. She has given solo performances with the Anne Arundel Community College Wind Ensemble and Orchestras, the Londontowne Symphony, and the Chesapeake Flute Consort on a tour of Belgium and France.

     As a private teacher, Dr Wade-English takes a student-centered, holistic approach to teaching. Her students have been selected for the Maryland All-State Bands, the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestras, the Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestras, and the Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestras of America, and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Side by Side concerts. Additionally, several students have been chosen as soloists with the BSO and U.S. Naval Academy Band. From 2014-2016 Dr. Wade taught flute for Aledo, Texas and Granbury, Texas school districts.

     Dr Wade-English earned her Doctor of Musical Arts from Texas Tech University; her Master of Music from Catholic University of America; and her Bachelor of Music from the University of North Texas. Her teachers have included Emily Skala, Alice Winereb, Tim Day, Mark Sparks, Toshiko Kohno, Carole Bean, Lisa Garner Santa, and Mary-Karen Clardy.
